I started my animal paintings with a single image of a dog who's entire body was made up of typography. This image was so popular that it was selected to be used for the Port Clinton Art Festival poster. Soon I had many collectors asking for more dog paintings. Then, the cat people became upset and insisted that I produce feline images.
While some are semi-realistic in execution, others are more illustrative. I love to combine actual photography with my paintings and make them as seamless as possible. Then, I wanted to add some pop culture elements and began giving hats, boots, purses, glasses and more to these animals.
In 2005, I was asked to create the artwork for the newly remodeled Pediatric Outpatient Surgery Unit at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Each room is themed with a different animal. Prints are available of these paintings as well as many other animals.
In 2006, I took my fun, illustrative animal paintings further, and created a new business, Hip Dog Cool Cat. It encompasses original animal paintings, limited edition prints, and merchandise including greeting cards and Tshirts. Click here for more info:
